The fact that most poles are made from carbon fibre which is a very delicate material means that it is very important to look after your poles to help maintain it in good condition and extend its life for as long as possible. The following points will help you to do this: -

  • Always keep the outer and inner parts of your pole clean and free from dirt.
  • Remember a dirty pole on the outside will make it dirty inside once it is put away. This is where a lot of the damage occurs as a tiny particle of grit can puncture a hole through a section if it is forced into the inside of another section when being put away.
  • Clean your pole down with a damp cloth or sponge after the fishing session if it is dirty. The best way is to use Garbolino G Clean which is ideal for this.
  • Always use pole rollers behind you when pole fishing. These will prevent wear and tear on the end of the pole as well as keep it secure preventing it from being blown about in the wind.
  • Always ensure that these rollers are positioned correctly taking the weigt of the pole when it is shipped back.
  • Always use a Garbolino Pole Sock to heep the front end of the pole secure when unshipped.
  • A Garbolino Expanda Bung will also prevent damage at the base of the sections
  • Never sit on the very end of your pole or hold it with the hard part of your elbow right on the very end. This may cause you to crack the pole when striking.
  • When playing fish with the top kit in your hand try to use your hand and forearm to play the fish rather than gripping too tight with just your fist.
  • Stick to the recommended elastic rating guidelines
  • Flat butt or half butts help prevent the ends of your sections cracking and make it safer to sit on your pole.
  • Keep an eye on your joints. the actions of shipping back and striking do encourage poles to work loose at times.
  • You can rebuild your sections that are wearing with Garbolino Graphite/Carbon Spray. This will build up an extra layer of carbon on the joints. Reapply as required. Garbolino PTFE Joint restorer is another way of slowing dow the wearing process.
