Simon Fry was recently crowned Drennan Knockout Cup Champion after an epic battle with fellow Garbolino angler Ian Didcote.
The two day final was held on two different venues. Day 1 saw Ian and Simon battle it out on the mighty river Wye at belmont, probably one of the most consistent match rivers in the UK. Ian came out on top on the first day with a stunning 37lb of dace on his Garbolino Roubaisiene pole to hand. Simon was only 11lb behind so it was all to play for at Docklow pools on day 2. this turned out to be another epic battle but eventually Simon's isalnd and meat line turned up trumps with a procession of better carp and he ended the session with 94lb to Ian's 71lb which meant Simon snook it overall by 12lb!
Simon commented after the match; -
"This has been a long but fantastic journey to the final. I have put in a lot of hard work to try and get through all the rounds which required so many different angling skills on such diverse venues. But it's all been worth it in the end! My commiserations go to Ian who has also fished really well all through the competition and will definately be a threat again next year!"
